Sunday April 12th at the Pasadena Convention Center, Creative Director John Murdy and Art Director Chris Williams announced that ‘Holidayz in Hell’ that was formerly a scare zone will be returning as an all new original maze to Halloween Horror Nights 2019. During the panel which took place during Monsterpalooza, they both dove into the details of the new maze for this year.
Based on the best rated scare zone at HHN last year which was located in the back lot of the event, Universal will be bringing back the characters from the different holidays into a maze experience. The maze will be placed in the Parisian Courtyard area of the park and will begin with a facade of a New Year themed holiday card.
As guests venture into the maze they will begin in a nursery where they will encounter characters such as ‘Baby New Year’ and the ‘Nightmare Nurse’. After, they will find themselves walking through the other holidays such as Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (from beginning to end). The maze will then lead into the ‘Dark Christmas’ scare zone.
Dark Christmas the scare zone will be bringing back some of guests favorites from the 2015 scare zone like ‘Jack Frost’. It will also feature some new characters like the Winter Witch, Baby New Year, and the Nutcracker stilt walker.
Electronic music artist ‘Figure’ who was worked with the event before will be doing the full score for this brand new maze.
Murdy then went on to share how they gained major inspiration for this maze from the “terrifying” vintage post cards for the different holidays back in the day. All of these holidays will be featured in the most twisted way people could imagine.
