Journey to Atlantis is finally re-opening after it’s very long refurbishment which left fans wondering when the water coaster would return. SeaWorld San Diego announced that the attraction would be returning today May 24th! Just in time for Memorial Day, the ride takes guests on a thrilling journey as a way to cool off from the hot San Diego weather.
SeaWorld gave a glimpse at what the brand new boats for the ride look like on their Instagram story. The new paint job is bright and looks stunning in its green and light blue look.
As riders board the eight passenger Greek fishing boats they embark on a 6 minute journey which includes a splashy 60-foot plunge into a lake. One of the innovative elements of the ride gives guests the illusion they’re not moving when actually they’re being elevated nearly eight stories in a lift tower. Which then leads them down a newly replaced banked turn into more twists and finally into a lake.
The ride originally opened in 2004 and was definitely well over due for this refurbishment. Other new additions include the re-painting of the attractions towers and the full area which is now painted a dark blue topped with yellow.
