A Knott’s Berry Farm favorite is coming back to the beloved park but in a whole different way. Opening up in the 70’s and closing down in 1986, Knott’s Bear-y Tales was one of the most loved attractions at the theme park and now the lovable bears have returned to the Buena Park theme park. Knott’s Bear-y Tales: Return to the Fair will be an all new interactive 4D attraction that will be following the story line of Boysen Bear and Girlsen Bear as they travel to the county fair. The new dark ride will re theme the current Voyage to the Iron Reef attraction that has seen a bit of a downhill ride since it’s first opening back in 2015.
The newly reimagined attraction will immerse riders in show scenes such as the Boysenberry Pie Factory, Frog Forest, Fortune Teller Camp, Thunder Cave, and Weird Woods all which were favorite scenes from the previous dark ride in the 70’s. This story line will pick up 34 years later where Crafty Coyote and his pups intend to steal Boysen and Girlsen Bear’s boysenberry pies that have won blue ribbons in the county fair. As guests board their vehicles they will use jelly blasters in order to take back the stolen pies. The full experience will be completely immersive and take riders on a interactive adventure through the whimsical scenes.
Ironically, the original Bear-y Tales attraction was located in the exact location of Voyage to the Iron Reef. Guests can locate the new dark ride across the Charles M. Schultz Theater and above the Boardwalk Arcade. Although, Iron Reef include’s little to no practical elements, it is rumored that Triotech is designing various animatronics for the Bear-y Tales: Return to the Fair attraction. If these rumors are true it will make the ride for a way more interactive attraction then Voyage to the Iron Reef is. The dark ride is set to open in Summer of 2020.
The opening of the ride adds to the anticipated 100th year celebration that takes place next year which will pay tribute to the Knott’s family during it’s 100th year anniversary. “The return of Knott’s Bear-y Tales is perfect for the 100th anniversary because it brings back one of the park’s most nostalgic and beloved attractions in an innovative 4-D dark ride format that will delight an entirely new generation of fans,” said Jon Storbeck, Vice President & General Manager of Knott’s Berry Farm.
